Everything else \u2014 views, reports, automations \u2014 is just a different way to look at them.<\/p>\n<h2>Create a task<\/h2>\n<p>Three ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Inline<\/strong> \u2014 click the empty row at the bottom of any section, type the title, hit return. Fastest.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Quick capture<\/strong> \u2014 global shortcut from anywhere on your machine (see <a href=\"\/installing-the-desktop-app\/\">desktop app<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>From email<\/strong> \u2014 forward to your workspace&#8217;s <code>tasks@<\/code> address; subject becomes the title, body becomes the description.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The fields you&#8217;ll actually use<\/h2>\n<p>A task can have a lot of metadata, but most teams use four or five fields:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Assignee<\/strong> \u2014 one person, accountable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Due date<\/strong> \u2014 when it&#8217;s expected. Overdue tasks turn red on every view.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Status<\/strong> \u2014 workflow position. Default: <em>Todo, In progress, In review, Done<\/em>. Customize per project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Priority<\/strong> \u2014 Low, Medium, High, Urgent. Used for sorting and reports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tags<\/strong> \u2014 free-form labels for filtering. <code>#bug<\/code>, <code>#customer-request<\/code>, <code>#tech-debt<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Subtasks vs. dependencies<\/h2>\n<p>People mix these up. The rule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Subtasks<\/strong> are <em>parts<\/em> of a parent task. &#8220;Ship homepage redesign&#8221; might have subtasks for design, copy, build, QA. The parent is done when the subtasks are done.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dependencies<\/strong> are <em>ordering<\/em> between independent tasks. &#8220;Deploy&#8221; depends on &#8220;QA pass&#8221; \u2014 both are full tasks; one blocks the other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Bulk edit<\/h2>\n<p>Select multiple tasks (shift-click or drag-select on board view) and the bulk action bar appears at the bottom: change assignee, status, due date, or move to a different section. Reassigning fifty tasks during reorgs takes seconds, not minutes.<\/p>\n<h2>Search<\/h2>\n<p>\u2318K from anywhere opens the global search. Type a few characters of a title or paste a task ID.
